About the Program
The Leadership in Action Program (LAP) is for senior executives with whole-of-business accountabilities. It emphasises the strategic benefits of building networks, influencing and negotiating organisational boundaries, and achieving business results through better performance across the organisation.
The LAP focuses powerfully on personal and interpersonal practice as a critical leadership capability. This is a very rich program for those who want to develop their capacity to work in a complex stakeholder landscape with a blend of internal and external business imperatives.
Target Group
This program is ideal for high potential executives, possibly in functional roles, who have been identified as future top talent and are reporting to top levels of the organisation.
The titles of typical participants in previous LAPs include: National Project/Program Manager, Group Manager, and Managers responsible for significant Operations, Infrastructure or Commercial performance.

Program activities
The Leadership in Action Program uses action learning principles to develop participants’ awareness of their own leadership style and their approach to leading.
In doing so, it helps participants expand their perspective on how their leadership decisions and strategies affect the business performance of the whole enterprise.
The program includes:
 |
 |
interactive sessions
with role model leaders; |
 |
 |
peer-to-peer and group
sessions that focus on practical leadership issues; |
 |
 |
culture-mapping exercise
- a powerful experiential in which participants
interact with a local community to develop their
awareness of organisational dynamics and appropriate
responses to complex situations; |
 |
 |
a personalised leadership
diagnostic that helps participants focus on building
their capacity to lead change in their organisation; |
 |
 |
one-on-one coaching
with two of Australia’s most experienced executive
coaches. |
Personal Action Projects
Participants in the LAP define and develop a leadership project that they will work on over the 8 weeks of this program.
Action Projects are agreed in collaboration with the participants and their managers to stretch their leadership capabilities through a higher-level undertaking that will make a difference to business performance.
Aims and benefits
This program builds individual strengths in participants and links personal practice to the business performance required of the enterprise.
For the individual, this adds up to greater awareness of personal leadership skills and development areas, plus improved capability in developing, managing and maintaining effective teams in an environment of change.
Return on Investment
For the organisation,
the ROI includes:
 |
 |
a greater capacity to lead effective, customerfocused
change; |
 |
 |
higher likelihood of sustainable cultural change
in line with the goals of the business; |
 |
 |
a cohort of leaders who are able to develop strong,
committed teams with a high level of affiliation
to the organisation; |
 |
 |
the capability to deploy streamlined change processes
that result in reduced cost, better problem diagnosis,
problem solving and business outputs. |
