Program activities
The Executive Capability Program deals with the realities and challenges that confront successful leaders today.

It provides access to the leaders responsible for strategic direction and business performance in some of the most vibrant and successful corporations in Australia: corporations that have broken the mould and are inventing new ways of dealing with existing problems.

The program includes:
an exploration of key leadership capabilities through a case study that takes participants beyond the traditional technical focus of most case studies;
a challenging leadership simulation;
immersive visits to outstanding enterprises pushing the boundaries of organisational excellence through innovative thinking;
a personalised diagnostic that focuses on the role of Emotional Intelligence in effective leadership;
one-on-one coaching with one of Australia’s most experienced executive coaches.

Every year, as part of the program, participants undertake fieldwork with innovative, successful organisations that are operating in parallel spheres of endeavor to the traditional large business model more familiar to many of our participants.

Examining leadership in unusual, multi-stakeholder, multi-agenda environments with an arts, social or health background provides a challenging insight into different models of leadership and engagement.

In previous years, participants have undertaken fieldwork with organisations such as:

  Body Shop – an iconic success story of values and ethics matching business performance;
  Circus Oz – young, action-focused people have formed a world-class performance company through collaboration and distributed leadership;
  Dibbs Abbot Stillman – is a leading national association of local law firms with more than 500 staff across Australia. The company also has a strong commitment to social justice and community-based work;
Diversity@Work – a consulting and training organisation that is also a committed advocate for policy, strategy and education in support of workplace inclusion around human rights and diversity
  Flying Start International – is Australia‘s leading football management agency. Managing Director, Ricky Nixon, has created a fascinating business with wide links to sports marketing, training programs, media and entertainment properties;
  Mogal Marine – is Melbourne based Australian Company operating in the developing area of harvesting offshore methanol via a floating ship-based factory.

Aims and benefits
The ECP presents new ways of seeing existing problems, new ways of defining success.

Participants learn how other sectors and businesses are dealing with the same mission critical issues that face them, and accordingly, their problem solving and decision-making repertoire is enhanced.

For the individual, this adds up to awareness of a greater range of choices and strategies that are available in complex business environments.

Return on Investment
This program delivers new solutions direct from the business front line. For the organisation, the ROI includes:
insight into new ways of dealing with tough, inherited problems;
leaders who are able to act with vitality and decisiveness in complex and difficult environments where change is fast and powerful;
access to concrete examples of success, solid transformational models and time with highachieving senior leaders;
a cadre of senior leaders adept at achieving sustainable change in the systems and processes they control;
better understanding of the relationship between governance, corporate citizenship and community expectation on the one hand, and sustained business performance on the other.
